He attended a fine seminar on management. That did not help.

He hired a management consultant who taught him all the latest techniques and methodologies. He told Paul exactly what he had to do. That did not help.

Why didn't the reading, seminars and consulting help? -- because it was the wrong solution. Paul was going about it just like and automobile mechanic that was replacing parts without knowing which one was broken. The employee problem continued and got worse

Finally, Paul hired a business coach, me. That helped. Together we discovered that Paul liked people and he wanted everybody to like him. That was great for its customers and prospects. Paul knew how to charm them, get their orders and repeat business. This was one of his big strengths.

It was also his big weakness. Because he wanted everybody to like him, he would not discipline his employees.

Understanding the problem clearly helped. Paul forced himself to discipline his employees. Things got better. Some of those workers shaped up. Of course, Paul had to keep after them. The hardest thing for him was to fire an employee.

Disciplining employees went against his grain and caused much stress. So I went a step further than most coaches can. I erased his fear and 5 min. with my mental programming technique called TRIGGERS. This technique is from my book, TRIGGERS: A New Approach to Self-Motivation, published by Prentice Hall. These techniques are similar to the ones used by Tony Robbins.

After I helped Paul understand the real problem and erased his fear of being disliked, Paul performed very well. He brought most of his workers up to speed and replaced his deadwood workers with go-getters. He was able to work less hours, (his wife was happy, happy). Both Paul and his wife were much less stressed, and sales grew from 1 million to a whopping $4.5 million.

Now they have time to take wonderful the vacations sightseeing the wonders of our great country.

I've used triggers to help other clients with similar problems. One entrepreneur needed the courage to fire his sister.

If you have similar blocks to your performance, it is impossible for you to resolve them yourself. You're just too close to the situation and lack the objectivity to fix it yourself.
